The man who spent the last 15 years planting flags for funeral processions to honor veterans and first responders has died.
Larry Eckhardt, or known as “The Flag Man,” passed away Tuesday morning.
In February, Larry was given the same honor he spent years of his life devoted to. The Little York, Illinois Fire Department laid out flags to welcome him back home, where he was to spend his final days in his battle with cancer.
It’s estimated that Eckhardt had planted nearly 500,000 flags.
No services are planned at this time due to social distancing guidelines in place, but a proper service will be held later.
