On Tuesday May 19th at approximately 12:07 a.m. Mattoon police were dispatched to a report of gunshots being fired at a residence in the 700 block of Moultrie Avenue. Upon arrival Officers discovered that a 23 year old male victim had been shot in the torso. The man was transported to Carle Hospital for treatment and will recover. 21-year-old Jax B. Prather of Mattoon, and a roommate of the gunshot victim, was arrested at 3:00 a.m. He was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and transported to the Coles County Jail. The charge alleges that Prather had been selling illicit cannabis out of the residence where the shooting took place. Cannabis, drug scales, and over $3,000.00 cash were seized, as well as numerous hits of acid. Charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver are pending lab results. That charge will allege that Prather had been selling acid from the residence as well. The investigation into the shooting continues.
