Stanford Is Cutting 11 Varsity Sports After This Year
(Palo Alto, CA) — Stanford University is cutting a third of its Division One sports programs because of a lack of funding due to the coronavirus pandemic. School officials say it is heartbreaking news, saying it will impact 240 students and 22 coaches. The school was struggling to support all those programs before the pandemic. But since then schools have seen a loss in revenue that will likely continue into the fall and winter. The programs being cut are men’s and women’s fencing, field hockey, men’s and lightweight rowing, co-ed and women’s sailing, squash, synchronized swimming, men’s volleyball, and wrestling.
