The Newton Power Plant will be closing by 2027. Vistra Energy yesterday announced plans to retire all of the coal-fired plants owned by its subsidiaries in Illinois and Ohio. This includes plants in Baldwin and Joppa, which will be shut down by the end of 2025, and Kincaid, which, like Newton will be retired in 2027. Officials said the retirements may be sooner than the announced dates should conditions dictate.
