The deer harvest total for the first firearm season was down more than 3,000 compared to last year. According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, hunters took just over 47,100 deer compared to more than 50,173 during opening weekend of 2019.
The county with the most deer was Randolph with 1,340 deer taken, followed by Adams County with 1,301, Jackson County with 1,227, Fulton County with 1,193 and Jefferson County with 1,080.
Second season begins Thursday, December 3, 2020 and runs through Sunday, December 6.
