The Windsor Fire Department was dispatched to multiple reports of explosions at the FS Bulk Fuel Plant west of Gays just before 9:00 last night, Monday, January 25, 2021.
Upon arrival, crews observed a large machine shed used for storing bulk oils had become fully involved. Additional units from neighboring departments were requested for mutual aid. While on scene, additional explosions erupted. When additional crews arrived, a perimeter was established that would eventually overtake the fire and extinguish the 100-foot tall blaze. The building and its contents were a total loss, along with several pieces of equipment.
The Windsor Fire Department thanks the following for their assistance: Strasburg, Lincoln, Wabash, Neoga, Sullivan, Findlay and Mattoon Fire Departments; Windsor Police; Windsor Ambulance; Mitchell-Jerdan Ambulance; Ladies Auxiliary of Lincoln Fire; Coles County Airport Authority; Shelby County and Moultrie County Sheriff’s Departments; and Office of the State Fire Marshal
