Adoptees would have easier access to the details of their birth parents under a bill being considered by the Illinois House. The legislation would still protect the identities of the parents of a child given up for adoption. However, it would allow adoptees to learn more about the reasons they were put up for adoption and some of the details of their parents’ medical histories. The bill has been approved by a House committee and could come up for a full House vote this week.
