According to 24/7 News Source, a bill to eliminate the office of lieutenant governor is advancing in the Illinois House. The bill’s been approved in committee on a unanimous, bi-partisan vote. An identical bill is pending in the Senate, but it would take a change in the state constitution to wipe out the office that critics say is useless. The bills would not affect the term of the current lieutenant governor, Evelyn Sanguinetti.
