Thursday, March 4, 2021, Ed Dowd, Executive Director of the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce was a guest on 101.3 WMCI. Here is a brief description of what he covered during the interview:
- The board of directors of the Mattoon and Charleston Area Chambers of Commerce have empowered members of their executive boards to enter into formal talks regarding the potential merger of the two organizations. While still in discussions, they are pleased to share that the talks have been both cordial and productive.
No final decisions will be made without first communicating with and then seeking the approval of each organizations respective memberships through a voting process. These are member-driven organizations and they will have the final approval. The discussions are still in the early stages and many more details still need to be addressed. Both Chambers have been working together on events, networking opportunities and helping support our local businesses throughout the pandemic. A potential unified effort could bolster the opportunity for the betterment of the entire region. - As the weather improves it is a great time to get out and support local restaurants, bars and retail establishments. Take a stroll throughout downtown Mattoon and see what opportunities it has to offer!
