Statement From the Charleston Fire Department:
On April 7, 2021 around 9:11 a.m. the Charleston Fire Department was dispatched to 1800 Reynolds Dr. in Charleston for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival crews found no fire. There was a roofing company on the roof and the home owner in the front yard, who stated there was light smoke in the home. The roofing crews stated there had been sparks from the main electric mast coming into the home. Fire crews found a wire in the attic which was burnt up and smoldering insulation. After further investigation, crews found multiple electrical wires had burnt in various places throughout the home. It was determined that the main power feed shorted out causing a surge of electricity throughout the home. There was very minimal damage to the structure. Crews were on scene until around 11:30 a.m. The fire was accidental, electrical in nature. The resident has been displaced due to the extensive damage to the electrical system, but were able to stay with a relative. The Charleston Fire Department was assisted by, Charleston Police Dept, City of Charleston Building Dept. Coles-Moultrie County 911 and Ameren CIPS.
