Coles County Sheriff Jimmy Rankin announced his retirement this morning. Rankin, who has been sheriff since 2014, said it was a difficult decision not to seek a third term, but he made it with his family’s best interest in mind. Rankin will continue to serve as sheriff for the next 18 months.
