Effingham County Sheriff David Mahon announced his retirement and resignation yesterday. In a letter to the residents of the county, the sheriff said while his decision to retire is based on personal life changes, it is reaffirmed by the pending anti-law enforcement legislation coming out of Springfield. Mahon will be one of eleven Illinois sheriffs retiring early. 19 others are not seeking re-election next year. His retirement and resignation are effective June 1st of this year.
