An Effingham man is facing multiple charges after causing multiple crashes including one that involved the Effingham Police Chief’s squad car. After receiving numerous complaints about a man driving erratically in town, officers tried to stop the vehicle driven by Tomas Santos Canfield. Canfield fled, and caused a crash at the intersection of Jefferson and Henrietta. He then ran off the road and damaged the yard of a store before getting back on the street and causing another crash. After that, Canfield ended up in a parking lot where he hit the squad car driven by Chief McFarland. Canfield was eventually taken into custody, but during the arrest police said he damaged another squad car and spit on an officer. His bond is set at $250,000.
