Funeral Held For Fallen Champaign Police Officer
(Decatur, IL) — Several communities are saying a final goodbye to Champaign Police Officer Chris Oberheim. At least a thousand people gathered for Oberheim’s funeral yesterday in Decatur, followed by his burial in the Monticello Cemetery. Community members lined the streets along the funeral procession route to honor Oberheim’s sacrifice. Oberheim died from injuries last Wednesday sustained during a shootout with a suspect in a domestic disturbance. His partner Officer Jeremy Creel was also shot and is now recovering at home. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
