Illinois State Police Release Video In Champaign Shootings
CHAMPAIGN, IL- The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) continue to investigate a shooting that occurred at the Town Center Apartments in the 2400 block of North Neil Street in Champaign on May 19, 2021 at approximately 3:24 a.m. involving the Champaign Police Department.
The shootings resulted in the deaths of Champaign Police Officer Chris Oberheim and Darion Lafayette and injury to Champaign Police Officer Jeffrey Creel.
In accordance with the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation’s commitment to integrity and transparency, the video of the events is being made available to the public. The videos are taken from surveillance cameras at the apartment complex and Officers Oberheim and Creel’s body cameras. The videos can be accessed through this link:

The families of Oberheim and Lafayette have been afforded the opportunity to view the video prior to this release. This video was only redacted to comply with individuals’ personal privacy protections.
This remains an ongoing investigation being conducted by ISP DCI Zone 5 and is under review by the Champaign County State’s Attorney Office. Additional information related to this investigation will be released by CCSA.
