The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of central Illinois, east central Illinois and southeast Illinois including Champaign-Clark-Clay-Coles-Crawford-Cumberland-Douglas-Edgar-Effingham-Jasper-Lawrence-Moultrie-Piatt-Richland and Vermilion counties
DAY ONE…TODAY AND TONIGHT… Thunderstorms will spread into east-central and southeast Illinois this afternoon through tonight. While widespread severe weather is not expected, some of the storms will be capable of producing gusty winds and heavy rainfall.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY… A round of strong to severe thunderstorms is possible late Friday afternoon into Friday night…particularly north of the I-70 corridor. Damaging wind gusts, large hail, and flash flooding are the main threats.
Heavy rainfall remains a serious concern through the upcoming weekend. The latest indications suggest rainfall of 4 to 6 inches along and north of a Danville to Taylorville line today through Sunday. This could lead to significant rises on area creeks and streams and produce localized flash flooding. Further south, rainfall will be much lighter…with 1 to 2 inches expected south of I-70.
SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT… Spotter activation is not anticipated through tonight.
