Dogs Can Get Sunburned, Heat Illness
(Undated) — Record high temperatures that are making millions of Americans miserable can be deadly when it comes to the family pet. Veterinarians want dog owners to know what to watch for and how to protect their four-legged friends. They say it’s important not to walk dogs on hot pavement and to make sure they have plenty of water. Dogs with thin coats can get sunburned and putting sunscreen on them isn’t crazy. Long-haired dogs should be brushed to get rid of their winter coat. And when a dog is less active and alert, shows increased panting and excessive drooling, it’s time to call the vet.
