- Grant opportunity for local nonprofits- Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs has announced their next round of Charitable Trust grant applications for nonprofits are now available. These grants for the Fall 2021 grant cycle will focus on three categories of non- profits: Food Programs, Housing Programs and Workforce & Economic Development. Charitable Trust grants are intended to help small non- profits with an annual budget of $1 million or less. For the Fall 2021 grant cycle, applications will be accepted from July 1 through September 30 in three categories: Food Programs, Housing Programs, and Workforce and Economic Development. Charitable Trust is intended to help small non-profits with annual budgets of $1 million or less. Grant applicants located in an area where pervasive poverty, unemployment, and economic distress exist will be given special attention. - Mattoon Tourism Bagelfest– A big week for residents and visitors alike. The 35th year of Bagelfest starts next Wednesday. All kinds of great events are lined up including the Bagel Bow Wow Dog Contest Wednesday evening at 6 pm. Categories including owner pet look alike and best dog tricks. Of course for your Country music fans Ricky Skaggs will be performing Friday evening the 16th. And the world’s biggest bagel breakfast will be Saturday morning.
