HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM WEDNESDAY TO 8 PM CDT THURSDAY…
* WHAT…Heat index values 100 to 105 expected Wednesday afternoon and heat index values 100 to 107 expected Thursday afternoon.
* WHERE…McLean, Logan, De Witt, Piatt, Menard, Sangamon, Christian, Macon, Moultrie and Shelby Counties.
* WHEN…From 1 PM Wednesday to 8 PM CDT Thursday.
* IMPACTS…Hot temperatures and high humidity will threaten heat-related illness for people and pets that experience prolonged exposure to these dangerous outdoor conditions.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Heat index will remain quite warm Wednesday night, offering little relief, before similar to hotter heat index develops for Thursday afternoon.
*PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
