Thursday, August 12, 2021, Ed Dowd, Executive Director of the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce was a guest on 101.3 WMCI. Here is a brief description of what he covered during the interview:
- The Chamber Business Expo and Taste of the Expo scheduled for October 7th has unfortunately been postponed for another year. The surge in the Delta variant. is only a small part of the reason for the postponement. The biggest issue is that the participating Taste and Expo vendors simply do not have the staff to be able to attend the Taste and service their restaurants for their lunch customers. The Chamber will be highlighting all the businesses and restaurants who have graciously volunteered their time and delectable delights every week on our Facebook page leading up to the original date. Please visit these local businesses and most importantly understand that they are all short staffed and the workers who are there need your patience and support as they are doing their best to serve you!
- The Chamber is working on a new event that should not be affected by the surge in COVID-19 and staffing issues. We will be holding our first Lobster Boil on Friday September 24th at the Eagles in Mattoon. We will have live lobsters that can either be cooked on sight or packaged to take home and cooked. We are working out all the details and will keep everyone posted!
- Finally, employment opportunities are plentiful. If you know of anyone who is out of work they can contact us or virtually any business in town and obtain gainful employment.
Keep up to date at the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce website.
