(Washington, DC) — U.S. Capitol Police in Washington, DC say they’re negotiating with a man who claims he has a bomb near the Capitol and the Library of Congress. U.S. Capitol Police chief Thomas Manger says officers are talking to the man who is in a black pickup truck. Manger says they know who the man is and he has some sort of criminal record, but he’s not disclosing any possible motives.

Police say the driver of a pickup truck claims to have an explosive device. The truck is parked and police have been continuing discussions with the driver from a safe distance. Evacuations of some nearby buildings have been carried out, including some House office buildings. The population of Capitol Hill is sparse as the House and Senate are in recess.

(Washington, DC) — Multiple agencies are investigating an active bomb threat in Washington, DC. It’s located near the Library of Congress and among those assisting include the FBI and ATF. U.S. Capitol Police initially reported they were looking into a suspicious vehicle. Reports say evacuations have happened in the surrounding area and they include Capitol Hill office buildings. However, the House and Senate aren’t in session, so most lawmakers aren’t in DC. Capitol Police say they’ll provide updates on the situation as soon as possible.

Active Bomb Threat Investigation Underway Near Library Of Congress
(Washington, DC) — An active bomb threat investigation is underway near the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. U.S. Capitol Police confirmed the incident on Twitter. This is after police said they were looking into a suspicious vehicle. Those in one House Office Building were told to relocate to another as the investigation continues.
