Charleston and Mattoon have joined forces to submit a joint application for federal funds in order to pave the gravel portion of the Lincoln Prairie Grass Trail. The grant would also help pay for extending the trail west to downtown Mattoon and creating routes from the trail to sites in both cities. Mattoon is scheduled to hold a public meeting about this grant application and a related funding application during the Public Works Advisory Board meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Both grant-funded project would occur in 2017 if the grants are approved.
