Universities will be open and running through the summer officially as of today!
The Illinois General Assembly today passed a higher education funding bill that will be a stop gap emergency solution, which will help keep Illinois universities open throughout the summer months.
State Representative Reggie Phillips and other House Republicans supported Senate Bill 2059, which has appropriated $600 million for higher education institutions and the Educational Assistance Fund. The funding is available now and will help give a better certainty for not only universities but the students who attend them as well.
Although the bill is a form of emergency funding, legislatures hope it will be a stepping stone to further agreements on budget issues and the overall fiscal budget.
