3D Bow Shoot at Ballard Nature Center
Ballard Nature Center in Altamont will have a 3D bow shoot this Saturday and Sunday, and September 18th and 19th. Registration will be open from 7:30-4:00 each day. It’s just $20 per shooter, and there’s a discount if you sign up for multiple days. A meal ticket will be included. 30 targets of all sizes will be set up. 9/11 Community Remembrance at Peterson Park
A 9/11 community remembrance will be held at Peterson Park in Mattoon this Saturday. The ceremony will include first-hand experiences from the Mattoon Fire and Police Departments, United and American Airlines, and emergency room physicians, EMTs, and the U.S. Army. The memorial program will begin at 8:59, signifying the time when the first tower collapsed. The Mattoon Exchange Club will be handing out free American flags while supplies last.
Trivia Night by CCAR & Charleston Rotary Club
The third annual trivia night hosted by CCAR and the Charleston Rotary Club will be September 11th at the Mattoon Eagles Club. Doors open at 6:00 and trivia will start at 7:00. Edgar County Shrine’s Auction, Car Show, & Raffle
The Edgar County Shrine’s live auction, car show and super raffle are this Saturday (9/11). Registration for the car show will be between 2:00 and 4:00, with awards handed out at 6:00. The super raffle drawing will be at 3:00, with the grand prize winner taking home a new Polaris General Sport 1000. Seven guns and seven cash prizes will also be awarded. The live auction will begin at 6:00 and will feature autographed Mike Ditka and Yadier Molina jerseys; several guns; two smokers; Case I-H pedal tractor, and much more.
EIU Army ROTC Pancake Breakfast
A pancake breakfast in support of EIU’s Army ROTC program will be held September 18th from 7:00-noon at the Charleston VFW. It’s all you can eat for just $7.00. Tickets will be available at the door.
Happy Day 5K at Williams Elementary School
The inaugural Happy Day 5K in honor of Hannah Mansell will be held October 9th at Williams Elementary School in Mattoon. Entry fee before September 20th is $25, which includes a t-shirt and wristband. The price will increase to $30 after the 20th. There’s also a virtual option for $35. Proceeds will benefit Eastern Illinois Area Special Education students with whom Hannah worked, and a scholarship in Hannah’s name for A-S-L students at her alma mater, William Woods University. Hog Raffle to benefit Sullivan Dance Studio Competition Team
The Sullivan Dance Studio Competition Team is having a hog raffle to help support competition costs. Two winners will receive half a hog plus processing. Tickets are $5.00 each or five for $20.
