Springfield Streetlights Turning Purple Because Of Malfunction

(Springfield, IL) — Springfield residents are starting to see more streetlights turning purple. Officials with City Water, Light, and Power says the problem began with a batch of LED lights installed several years ago. Officials say a filter failure is causing normal streetlights to slowly turn purple. Problems began popping up about six months ago. Only 50 defective bulbs have been identified, but the yellow filter will be added back in the next few weeks to correct the color.
