Merriam-Webster Chooses Vaccine A Word Of Year
(Undated) — Merriam-Webster is declaring “vaccine” as its Word of the Year. It comes as no surprise as the potential to end a pandemic also became politically charged as a debate over personal freedom. Interest in the word grew, with lookups online spiking more than 600 percent since last December. Runner-up words including insurrection, perseverance, woke, nomad, infrastructure, cicada, guardian, and meta.
