Paris Community Hospital/Family Medical Center will offer a special series of complete health screenings in May.
These “We Care 4 U” health screenings will be available on Saturday, May 14, in the Paris Family Medical Center. The screenings will be available from 7 to 11 am by appointment.
The screenings help assess your overall health and are offered at a discounted price. You don’t need a doctor’s order and you don’t have to show a medical need to be screened for a variety of common health conditions.
“I’ve had a number of people ask why they should pay cash for these screenings when they have insurance coverage,” said Leighsa Cornwell, RN, CDE, community health and disease management coordinator at PCH. “The fact is that insurance only pays for testing when a medical need is shown. These screenings give people the opportunity to gauge their overall health simply because they want to know. Then, if they have any irregular results, they can follow up with their primary care provider.”

The We Care 4 U health screenings include stroke, lung, heart/diabetic, and osteoporosis/bone screenings. Participants can choose which screenings they would like done, and should allow at least an hour for their screenings.
All tests will be performed by certified/registered healthcare professionals using state-of-the-art equipment at PCH/FMC. Screenings will include the following:
- Stroke screening ($129)–Includes an ultrasound of the carotid arteries in the neck; a peripheral arterial screening (blood pressures in the arms and legs); and an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening, which checks for an enlarged aorta.
- Lung screening ($99)–Tests for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The screening includes a pulmonary function test, which checks overall lung health, and a pulse oximetry test, which determines oxygen level in the blood.
- Heart/diabetic screening ($49)–Measures heart rate, blood pressure, blood sugar, lipid panel/total cholesterol (HDL, LDL, and triglycerides). An electrocardiogram (EKG) checks for potential heart problems.
- Osteoporosis (bone) screening ($29)–A heel scan measures bone mineral content in the body.
- Complete screening package (all tests $249)–Stroke screening, lung screening, heart/diabetic screening, and osteoporosis (bone) screening.
All screening results will be provided to participants the day of the screenings. Note that all medical tests are for screening purposes only. It is the participant’s responsibility to schedule a follow-up appointment with a healthcare provider if he or she chooses. At no point will participants be asked to undress, just simply wear loose fitting clothing.
To schedule an appointment, call Leighsa Cornwell at 217-465-2606, Ext. 228. Cash, check, and credit card will be accepted. No insurance will be billed.
