Illinois’ State Board of Elections is now reviewing more than a half-million signatures. The flood of petitions is part of the effort to change how Illinois draws its political maps. Organizers of the Independent Maps push submitted the signatures last week. If the signatures pass muster, voters will decide in November if lawmakers should continue to draw Illinois’ political maps or if an independent commission should take over.
