Leonard B. Ochs, age 83, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 11:18 AM – Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM – Monday, May 16, 2016 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois, with Fr. Al Kemme celebrating mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ste. Marie, Illinois with full military rites by the Ste. Marie American Legion Post #932. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the church and ½ hour before the mass. In loving memory of Leonard, memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Leonard was born on the family farm in rural Newton, Illinois, on September 5, 1932, the son of Daniel J. and Rosa C. (Eckel) Ochs. He married Coletta Steber on November 9, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney, Illinois, and she survives.
Leonard served his country in the United States Army from January 10, 1956 until his honorable discharge on December 31, 1957. After his discharge he transferred to the United States Army reserves.
Leonard was a lifelong farmer and a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois. He enjoyed traveling and taking care of his cats.
Leonard is survived by: Wife of 55 years – Coletta Ochs of Newton, Illinois, Sons – Alan (wife Nancy) Ochs of Newton, Illinois and Dan Ochs (fiancé Jill Rohwedder) of Newton, Illinois Grandson – Owen Ochs of Newton, Illinois, Brother – Donald J. (Wife Betty) Ochs of Newton, Illinois and Sister – Jeanette Kuhl of Newton, Illinois.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jerome Ochs.
