South leg of Fayette Avenue/Henrietta Street intersection to close Saturday for drainage improvements
Southbound lane closures to occur on Friday
EFFINGHAM – The Illinois Department of Transportation announces the closure of southbound Henrietta Street at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, from Fayette Avenue to just south of the intersection. One lane will remain open for northbound traffic. All south leg lanes at that intersection will be closed on Saturday. The project is expected to progress so that one lane of traffic in each direction will be open Saturday evening.
This closure is needed to construct a drainage structure to carry stormwater along Fayette Avenue across Henrietta Street. This improvement is part of the $21.8 million Fayette Avenue reconstruction project.
A marked detour will be in place for U.S. 40 traffic utilizing Outer Belt West and Fayette Avenue. Local traffic can use Raney Street and Grove Avenue to detour around the intersection.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,000 miles of highway and nearly 10 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Four of Rebuild Illinois included approximately $12.1 billion of improvements statewide on 5,339 miles of highway, 533 bridges and 762 additional safety improvements.
