Construction at Fayette Avenue/Raney Street Intersection Begins June 18
EFFINGHAM – The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that work continues at the intersection of Fayette Avenue and Raney Street with the closure of the westbound lanes of Fayette Avenue and the north side of Raney Street. The closure begins on Tuesday, June 18, and is expected to last three to four weeks. This closure is part of the Fayette Avenue reconstruction project.
Westbound traffic will be moved to the newly constructed turn lane through the intersection. The north leg of the intersection will be closed. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained through the intersection on Fayette Avenue. Access to the Speedway truck stop/gas station will be at its east entrance. Access to the Comfort Suites Hotel will be from its south entrance.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
