Canvas, an online education platform used by Lake Land College, and for that matter thousands of other colleges across the country, has been hit by a cybersecurity breach. The data leak has been reported as having hit around 9,000 universities and colleges nationwide, and Lake Land is in fact among them. For now, Canvas is down and will stay that way while the situation gets sorted out. Lake Land College says it’s now working to make sure students and instructors can still get their coursework done in the meantime. This comes about right at the end of the course year, a particularly busy time for everyone on campus.
Lake Land Administration would like you to be on the lookout for suspicious emails or text messages. Situations like this could bring out scammers looking to take advantage of a widespread data breach. If something looks off in your inbox, trust your gut. Students can check Laker Mail or the Hub for the latest updates as more information becomes available.
