Still in need of support following the tornado in Coles County? When there are so many places to turn to, it can feel overwhelming. That’s why the Coles County Illinois Community Organizations Active in Disaster or “CCI-COAD,” is hosting a Multi-Agency Resource Center, or “MARC.” They’ve done so in partnership with the Coles County EMA, the City of Charleston, and Eastern Illinois University.
The event takes place today, Monday, June 29th, and Tuesday, June 30th from 12 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. both days at the EIU Lantz Athletic Building, located at 2150 4th Street in Charleston. No appointment is needed. Walk-ins are welcome during event hours, though an optional RSVP is available to help organizers prepare for the crowd at hand.
More than 20 agencies and organizations will be present to help Coles County residents explore their recovery options. Services available include: housing assistance, insurance questions, human services programs, replacement document information, senior services, public health resources, and disaster-related recovery support, among others. This is not a supply distribution site meaning food, water, and physical goods will not be available. However, the organizations present will be able to provide information, guidance, referrals, and direct you towards assistance for these basic needs.
If you plan to attend, bring what you can. It’s asked of you to bring a driver’s license or photo ID, proof of residency, and a utility bill or other document showing your address. Free parking is available on the north side of the building, so follow event signage when you arrive. Free babysitting will also be provided on site while you meet with agencies.
