Illinois State Police are investigating a double homicide in Olney after two people were found dead in separate homes on the same street Monday afternoon. The other similarity between the two victims? Their last names. It has not been officially announced that the two killed were in fact family members, although that seems to be the case with this tragic situation.
NOTE: Again, that has yet to be confirmed by investigators with the Illinois State Police.
Just after 3 p.m. yesterday, Olney officers responded to two separate homes on Monroe Street and discovered the victims inside. They have been since identified as 52-year-old John D. Jones Jr. and 73-year-old Deborah J. Jones.
The Olney Police Department and Richland County Sheriff’s Office then requested that the Illinois State Police take over the investigation.
Since then, one person has been arrested in connection with the deaths. Officials have not released the suspect’s identity or details surrounding the circumstances of the killings at this time. Additional speculation around the case continues to circulate with unfounded accusations that this was some sort of family member of the deceased pair.
ISP says there is no risk to the public and the investigation remains ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
