A 44-year-old Mattoon man is now facing several felony charges after Illinois State Police recovered a gun and cocaine during a narcotics investigation last Friday.
The State Police East Central Illinois Task Force or ‘ECITF,’ working with the Coles County Crisis Response Team, arrested Marcus M. Jackson around 2 p.m. after an operation that led to the recovery of a firearm connected to him. Jackson was taken into custody and transported to the Mattoon Police Department. Jackson is currently being held at the Coles County Jail, he is now awaiting a preliminary hearing on August 17th.
Following the arrest, task force officers obtained search warrants from the Coles County State’s Attorney’s Office and searched Jackson’s residence in the 900 block of South 17th Street. During that search, officers recovered approximately seven grams of cocaine. Jackson now faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, armed violence, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, the first two of which are Class X felonies.
Jackson was seemingly denied pre-trial release this morning, August 10th, due to the severity of the charges. Illinois State Police have said no further information is available at this time.
All individuals listed as arrested or cited are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
