The Charleston Trojans traveled to Taylorville Friday night to take on the Tornadoes while still looking for their first win in Apollo Conference play.
Taylorville wanted to make sure that did not happen while playing them as the Tornadoes scored early on in the first quarter on a 32 yard pass from Parker Stokes to Justin Wright to go up 8-0.
Stokes added another score in the first quarter, this time with his legs. A short one yard run and Jagger Moore extra point made it 15-0 Taylorville after the first quarter.
Stokes was not done on the ground with that short run. Early in the second he got free from 35 yards out for his second touchdown on the ground and third total.
With just over two minutes to play in the first half, Wright ran in from five yards out to extend the lead before halftime.
Just 27 second later, Wright caught a pass from Stokes from 27 yards out to add to the first half damage.
Just over a minute later, still late in the first half, Stokes found Michael Durbin in the endzone from six yards out to go up 40-0 just before halftime.
Taylorville scored 19 points in the final 2:17 of the first half.
After the first half and the continuous clock for the second half, nobody scored to give Taylorville a 40-0 victory over Charleston.
The Tornado defense was stellar, holding Seth Higgins to just 46 yards through the air and held Tony Gilbert and Bryce Frederick to a combined 55 yards rushing on 18 carries.
With the loss, Charleston drops to 2-5 on the year and have now lost five straight, they are also winless in the Apollo still at 0-4. The Trojans will host Salem (1-6) in a battle of winless teams in the Conference.
With the win, Taylorville improves to 6-1 on the year and 3-1 in Conference play. Their only loss came from Mt. Zion who is still undefeated in the Conference. Taylorville will host Mattoon (4-3) next week in a match up of 3-1 teams in the Apollo.
