A big game in the Central Illinois Conference featured Shelbyville and Central A&M on Friday night. Shelbyville came into the game with five wins and was eligible for a playoff spot already. Central A&M came in 3-4 and would need to win out to be eligible for a playoff spot.
Shelbyville struck first, but not until the second quarter. Turner Pullen hit Kentrell Beck for 43 yards and a touchdown. Pullen passed to Cade Watson for the two points and Shelbyville led 8-0 in the second.
Shelbyville scored again in the second quarter, this time Watson caught a pass from Pullen that went for 23 yards and a touchdown. The two point conversion failed, Shelbyville led 14-0 in the second quarter.
Central A&M got on the board just in time before Shelbyville could pull away. Jameson Smith found Jackson Bugg on a big, 73 yard touchdown pass. The extra point was good and the led was cut in half, 14-7 Shelbyville still in the second quarter.
Shelbyville found the endzone again in the second quarter. Pullen found Watson again, this time from 39 yards and the failed two point conversion made it 20-7 at halftime.
The Rams came out and put more points on the board in the third quarter. It was Pullen to Watson again, for the third time, this from 57 yards and the two point conversion was successful.
Shelbyville, again held Central A&M and took advantage. Pullen hit Beck for 21 yards and a touchdown. Shelbyville led big, 36-7 in the third.
Central A&M tried to cut the lead in the third. Smith hit Keaton Garner for a nine yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 36-15.
Beck ran another in from nine yards and nobody scored in the fourth. Shelbyville clinches a playoff spot with a 44-15 win over Central A&M.
With the win, Shelbyville improves to 6-2 overall and will be in the playoffs, the Rams are now 5-1 in Conference play. Shelbyville will wrap up their regular season hosting Decatur St. Teresa next week.
With the loss, Central A&M is eliminated from making the playoffs with a 3-5 overall record and 2-4 now in the conference. The Raiders will finish their season at Warrensburg Latham next Friday.
