Phillip Russell Apple, age 82, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 11:07 AM – Saturday, October 15, 2016, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held from 11:00 AM – Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Private family burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. In loving memory of Phillip, memorials may be made to the Newton Athletic Boosters. Phillip was born on April 30, 1934, in Martinsville, Illinois, the son of Russell E. and Rose (Green) Apple. He married Zella Chapman on November 8, 1953, in Newton, Illinois, and she survives.
Phillip retired from Norris Electric Cooperative in Newton, Illinois, after 44 years of service. He was a member of the Olney Eagles and the Olney Elks club. Phillip enjoyed playing golf, mushroom hunting and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Phillip is survived by: Wife of 62 years – Zella Apple of Newton, Illinois, Children – Crystal Frank of Newburg, Indiana, Michael (Leslie) Apple of Newton, Illinois, Bruce Apple of Newton, Illinois, Grandchildren – Kiley Gordon of Paris, Illinois, Breyton (Tara) Apple of Newton, Illinois and Brittany Frank of Newburg, Indiana, Great Grandchildren – Kiel Apple of Newton, Illinois and Gabe Gordon of Effingham, Illinois and Sister – Nancy (Van) Munsey of Carmi, Illinois.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents.
