According to a Mattoon Police Department Press Release, Mattoon Police and Coles County Crimestoppers request public assistance in solving a case of Home Invasion in which a senior citizen was assaulted and injured.
On Wednesday Oct. 19th at approx.. 3:37 a.m. police responded to an emergency call at a residence in the 1000 block of Rudy Avenue. Upon arrival they found a 70 year old victim who had been severely beaten. The victim advised that he had been asleep in his home and awoke to find two younger men inside. An altercation ensued and the 70 year old victim sustained numerous injuries. He was taken to SBLHC and then transferred to Carle Hospital where he is in stable condition.
The suspects are described as two white males, late teens to early twenties. Approx. 5’8, thin build. They were armed with a club or other blunt instrument that was used to bludgeon the victim.
Anyone with any information regarding this crime, or any unusual activity during the early morning hours in the neighborhoods adjacent to S. 9th street, including Stinson, Annis, and Bell streets, are requested to call Crimestoppers at 1-866-345-8488.
