Dr. Sally Salmons recently received the 2016 Physician of Excellence Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association (IRHA) at a special reception held at the I-Hotel and Conference Center. Every year, the Illinois Rural Health Association (IRHA) honors physicians who exhibit a special commitment to rural healthcare. One of the biggest healthcare challenges across our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural settings. IRHA feels it is important to recognize those who have accepted this calling and gone out of their way to make an impact.
“What impressed our selection committee was the far reaching impact of Dr. Salmons’ work, overseeing 18 primary care clinics throughout underserved areas in east central Illinois and her ability to expand specialty care in many of these areas such as psychiatry, obstetrics, and pediatrics”, explained IRHA Executive Director Margaret Vaughn.
“It means a lot to me that this award came from the Illinois Rural Health Association,” Dr. Salmons said. “Their whole purpose mirrors what Carle strives for, we both want to raise the tide of health care in rural communities where resources are not plentiful.”
