An early morning accident claimed the life of a St. Elmo man. Illinois State Police say 50-year-old Greg Stoner was walking west in the driving lane of Route 40 west of St. Elmo Saturday after crashing his car in a private driveway. A vehicle driven by 22-year-old Ashley Lakin, of Brownstown, attempted to avoid striking him, then swerved into the ditch and overturning. Stoner was pronounced dead at the scene. Lakin received minor injuries.
