Illinois State Police say 20-year-old Kayla Girard, and 19-year-old Devan Porter of Cowden have each been charged with aggravated battery of a child and are being held in the Shelby County Jail in lieu of posting $100,000 bond. The investigation began on November 1st when the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office received a report of “unexplained injuries” seen on their 12-day-old baby when it had been taken to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. The injuries were determined to be consistent with child abuse.
