Two men face charges following an accident on I-57 this morning.
According to the Illinois State Police, a vehicle driven by Marco Aguirre, of Hammond was northbound near milepost 202.4 near Arcola. Witnesses reported his vehicle was swerving prior to a crash with a car driven by Julian Cummings, of Rantoul. Both vehicles lost control and spun around on the roadway. Cummings’ vehicle came to rest in the median, while Aguirre’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a fence in the ditch, and came to rest approximately 100 yards off the roadway in a farm field.
During the investigation, it was determined that Aguirre fell asleep at the wheel. He was issued citations for driving with a suspended license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and no valid registration. Cummings was ticketed for driving while license suspended.
