Illinois Heading Into Another Budget Crisis
(Springfield, IL) — Illinois will lose the legal authority to spend money on most things other than schools, pensions and paychecks, and some mental health programs this weekend. The state’s temporary budget expires Sunday. Lawmakers don’t have a replacement. Illinois will continue to collect taxes, but the state won’t have the legal authority to spend on all but a few things.
