GM To Cut Shift, Lay Off 1,100 More Workers
(Lansing, MI) — General Motors is announcing yet another round of layoffs. The automaker announced today it will lay off eleven-hundred workers from its Lansing Delta Township plant, which builds three SUVs on the same platform — the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and the first-generation GMC Acadia. Production of the original Acadia is being phased out as the new generation is being made in Spring Hill, Tennessee. The layoffs will take effect when the assembly plant eliminates the third shift in May, and affected workers were given 60 days’ notice this morning. It’s the fourth set of layoffs announced by GM since November.
