Mattoon football hit the road on Friday night to take on a team that has lost 12 straight games coming into friday night, that team was Mascoutah.
After a scoreless first quarter, Mattoon found the endzone early on in the second quarter to take the lead on a hook and ladder play on a fourth and 31.
Mascoutah was able to answer back right away though and tie the game at 7 still in the second quarter, where all the games points were scored.
After an 11 play, 68 yard drive and a four yard touchdown run, Mattoon regained the lead and went up 13-7.
Mascoutah fumbled on their next drive and Mattoon grabbed the loose ball. This is where things started to head downhill for the Wave. Quarterback, Nick Poorman, was sacked and lost the ball to give it right back to Mascoutah. This was one of six total Mattoon turnovers.
On the first play with the ball back, Mascoutah ran it in from 39 yards out to regain the lead, 14-13.
After a Mattoon field goal to regain the Wave lead, just a few plays later after Mascoutah returned the kickoff to the 50, the Indians were in the endzone again and led 22-16 at halftime.
Mattoon then turned the ball over five times in the second half but held strong on defense. Nobody scored in the second half and Mascoutah went on to win in a sort of ugly ball game, 22-16 and the Wave drop to 0-2 in the early 2016 season.
Two interceptions thrown and four fumbles lost are the result of six Mattoon turnovers to help Mascoutah snap a 12 game losing streak.
Mattoon will play host to Jersey next week as the Green Wave are still searching for win number one of the season.
