Illinois State Police say a tractor-trailer driven by 54-year-old David Haslett, of Fillmore, Illinois was leaving the rest area preparing to merge when another tractor-trailer, driven by 35-year-old Daniel Feddeck, of Picayune, Mississippi changed into the left lane to allow the merge. Haslett’s rig unexpectedly prematurely merged, traveling through the median grass before the end of the ramp, then drove into the side of Feddeck’s vehicle at its front tandem axles. Haslett’s rig suffered significant front end damage and came to rest in the center of both southbound lanes. Feddeck’s rig suffered significant trailer damage and came to rest on the right shoulder. Haslett was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital.
