(Chicago, IL) — llinois Senate Democrats are sending Governor Rauner a politically sensitive bill that would expand taxpayer-subsidized abortions. The bill would extend abortion coverage to state employees and to those covered by Medicaid. As a candidate, Rauner said he favored the expansion of coverage, but lately he has only said he’s listening to both sides. He says he’s personally pro-choice, but says he respects the moral arguments and the debate on the other side. He promises a decision “in the near future.” Rauner has 60-days to act on the bill that also guarantees that abortion rights would continue in Illinois if Roe versus Wade were ever overturned.
