Three were transported to an area hospital following a personal injury traffic crash along I-74, westbound, at milepost 189 in Champaign County the morning of Tuesday, May 1, 2018. According to preliminary investigation from Illinois State Police District 10, a Chevrolet Equinox (unit 3) was slowed in traffic back-up due to a high volume of westbound traffic merging into the right lane approaching the marked work zone on I-74 west; behind unit 3, a Toyota Camry (Unit 2). While the two were in slow traffic, a Jeep Grand Cherokee (unit 1) failed to slow down and struck unit 2 in the rear, pushing the Toyota into the median wire barrier. Unit 1 continued westbound striking unit 3 in the left rear corner.
All drivers, Susan Prather, 54 (unit 1), Adam Schuster, 46 (unit 2), and Debra Routh, 55 (unit 3) all of St. Joseph, Illinois were transported to an area hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Prather was issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a traffic crash and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
