Arcola and Cerro Gordo/Bement met up on Friday night in a Little Okaw Valley Conference game.
Arcola struck first on a 26 yard touchdown run from Mario Cortez in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead after the first.
Cortez found himself in the endzone again, this time it was a pass from Conner Strader for 14 yards and a 14-0 lead. Cortez hit a 21 yard field goal before halftime and the Purple Riders led 17-0 at the half.
Arcola’s defense continued to hold tough while the offense consistently put points on the board. Kaleb Byard intercepted a Cerro Gordo pass and took it 17 yards for a defensive touchdown.
Later in the third, Tony Salinas caught a 70 yard pass from Strader for a touchdown. Arcola led 32-0 heading to the final quarter.
Strader took the ball in one more time, a 27 yard run wrapped up the scoring for Arcola in their shutout, 38-0 win over Cerror Gordo.
The win is the first conference win of the season for Arcola and bumps them up to 3-2 overall. The Purple Riders will host Decatur Lutheran next week.
Cerro Gordo falls to 1-4 and 0-2 in the conference after the loss. The Broncos will host undefeated Argenta-Oreana (5-0) next week.
